Unfortunately, the Asheville Cat Weirdos board has made the very difficult decision to close down the ACW Cat Pantry, effective the end of September. We will have both July pantry dates, and then the last Sat in August and the last Sat in September.
This is not a decision that was made lightly. The sad truth is that our donations are down a lot. The Emergency Fund has been inundated with emergencies since Helene. We allotted $10,000 per month for EVAP (the Emergency Veterinary Assistance Program) at the beginning of the year. However, we are using that money up by the 15th of every month. In June, we had over 30 emergencies by the 10th and had to close applications on that date.
A printed list of other pet food pantries in Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, Madison, Jackson, and Polk counties will be handed out to folks coming to the pantry.
Asheville Humane Society has a list of local food pantries on their website under community resources.
There are multiple pantries in this area, but no other organizations that help with veterinary assistance. Our priority is the Emergency Fund and keeping it going.
