Could Your Cat Be a Social Media Star? A Guide to Making Your Feline Famous Online

Here in Asheville, we are no stranger to famous kitties! In addition to the national felines like Grumpy Cat and Morris, we have our share of local names we know as well—Sansa, Captain Patch and of course, Pipsqueak.

How do cats come to be famous? Every famous feline has a “thing”—whether it’s a grumpy face, epic floof, or quirky personality. What distinguishes your cat? Is she a diva with cattitude? A chaotic gremlin knocking things off shelves? *raises hand* What would other cat people find adorable about yours?

Whatever “theme” you choose for your engaging baby, double down on it. Pick a catchy name and handle: e.g., @SirMeowington, @TunaTheFluff, or @Chaos_Cat_Chronicles. Choose a consistent aesthetic or theme (funny, cozy, chaotic, sassy, etc.).

Create a bio that stands out—emojis and a bit of humor go a long way.

Next, create content—photos, videos, candid moments of spontaneous zoomies or biscuit-making sessions. You don’t need fancy gear. A smartphone with decent lighting works just fine. Use natural light—cats always look better basking in a sunbeam. Keep it short and sweet. 15–30 second clips perform best on TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Do a little research, find trending sounds, challenges, and hashtags like #Catsoftiktok, #MeowLife, or #FelineFamous. Post 3 to 5 times a week. Share behind-the-scenes
content too—bloopers and unfiltered moments are internet gold!

A big key to success is the “social” part of social media. Follow other pet accounts. Leave cute comments, join cat-related trends, and duet or collab with other fur-fluencers. Respond to your followers like your cat is answering. (“Thanks for the love, peasants –Fluffzilla”)

Once your cat’s got a decent following, you can land brand deals for treats, toys, or pet gear, even sell merchandise (stickers, mugs, tees with your cat’s face). Set up a Patreon or
Ko-fi with bonus content for fans.

The biggest caveat, of course, is to take good care of your cat star. Your cat’s comfort comes first. If they’re not feeling it, don’t force it. No one likes a grumpy influencer (well… unless that is their brand). Most of all, have fun. We do all the things we do for the love of cats, after all, right?
