ABOUT THIS ROLE
Asheville Cat Weirdos runs on donated dollars and volunteer hours — and grants are one of the most powerful ways we can stabilize our funding. Our Grant Writer researches funding opportunities, writes compelling applications, and helps us tell our story to foundations and funders who can make a real difference for the cats and families we serve.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research grant opportunities aligned with ACW’s mission across animal welfare, human-animal bond, shelter diversion, and disaster recovery categories
- Write and submit grant applications on behalf of ACW, in coordination with the Organization Lead
- Track deadlines, submission requirements, and reporting obligations for all active grants
- Maintain a running list of past, current, and prospective grant opportunities
- Draft grant reports when required by funders
- Communicate progress and outcomes clearly to the Organization Lead
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Previous grant writing experience for 501(c)(3) nonprofits is required
- Exceptional written communication skills — you know how to tell a story that moves people to act
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines independently
- Comfortable working remotely and communicating primarily via email
- Proficiency with computers and standard office tools (Google Docs, email, etc.)
- Familiarity with Western North Carolina’s funding landscape is a plus but not required

ACW is a small, high-impact organization with near-zero overhead. In 2025, we helped 359 cats and paid $106,000 in emergency veterinary bills. These are the numbers that open doors — and we need someone who can walk through them.
